that yesterday while I was getting a massage, my massage therapist told me that,
“Your legs are pretty sensitive, but your back could take a pickax,”
and I felt oddly proud?

Strangely enough, I know exactly what you mean.
And I would have been extremely proud as well.
I so know what you mean, girl! I failed massage 101. My neurologist thought it would help me relax. Instead, it turned into a wrestling match. I simply refuse to disrobe, turn my back to a stranger and relax.
